The Protein, Proteomics, and Metabolomics Core Facility (PPMF) conducted a two-part training course from March to April 2024 comprised of lectures and hands-on work for the researchers of the following projects implemented under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST):
- MORPH Project 1: Monitoring drug Efficacy through Multi-Omics Research Initiative in Alzheimer’s Disease (MEMORI-AD)
- MORPH Project 2: Molecular Epidemiology of Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus and Immunophenotyping of Adult Filipino TB/HIV Co-infected Patients
- IMMUNE-Biologics Project 3: Immunological Models of Medically Useful Novel Entities (IMMUNE) Program
- MORPH Project 3: Determinants of acquisition, persistence, and clearance of oncogenic cervical human papillomavirus infection in a cohort of women in rural and urban Philippines using a multi-OMICS approach (DEFEAT HPV)
- MORPH Project 4: Identification of Biomarkers to Distinguish Between Follicular Thyroid Carcinoma and Follicular Thyroid Adenoma
The first part of the course covered key topics in proteomics which provided the participants with an understanding of the overall process involved in sample preparation techniques for proteomics analysis (protein extraction → quantification → characterization → proteomics analysis). In addition, fundamental principles related to liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, and the analysis of MS data were also included in the training.
On the other hand, the second part of the course focused on metabolomics-related topics namely, metabolite extraction, LC-MS instrumentation, untargeted & targeted metabolomics, data processing, basic statistical analysis, and method development for metabolomics analysis. The participants were exposed to the theoretical and applied components from sample preparation techniques for metabolomics analysis to liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, data analysis, and statistical analyses.
Part I: Proteomics training first batch (March 11-15, 2024) and second batch (April 1-5, 2024)
Part II: Metabolomics training first batch (April 15-19, 2024)
The PPMF offers services with focus on the assessment of total protein expression as well as total metabolite populations in test samples. See available services and equipment rental here: https://pgc.up.edu.ph/services/protein-proteomics-and-metabolomics/
