About the Speaker:

Maria Terrese A. Dimamay, PhD, IFBA PC | Associate Scientist, Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), Department of Science and Technology (DOST) | Assistant Professor, St. Luke’s Medical Center – College of Medicine William H. Quasha Memorial

Dr. Maria Terrese Alonzo-Dimamay, or Dr. Tet, has obtained her Doctoral degree in Medical Science from Osaka University under the Monbukagakusho Scholarship Program of Japan. Her dissertation has been awarded by the Doctor’s Degree Qualifications Committee of Osaka University Graduate School of Medicine as the outstanding thesis for academic year 2011-2012, gaining her PhD with Distinction.

Dr. Tet has been part of the Research and Biotechnology Group of St. Luke’s Medical Center (R&B – SLMC) for about 2 decades, from 2001 – 2022. She now belongs to the Department of Science and Technology of the Republic of the Philippines as an Associate Scientist assigned to lead programs and projects under the Virology and Vaccine Research and Development Program. She has been doing studies on arboviruses such as dengue, Japanese encephalitis, chikungunya and zika throughout her research career. She also conducts researches on respiratory viruses such as influenza, human rhinovirus, adenovirus, and Covid-19. She has been awarded with multi-million research grants on Respiratory and Vector-borne Virus Biobanking Program and Vaccine Development studies utilizing recombinant protein subunits, mRNA and virus-like particle or VLP platforms for Mycobacterium tuberculosis and Philippine-endemic Arboviruses. Dr. Dimamay has accumulated a number of scientific publications throughout her R&D career and has recently obtained her professional certification in Biorisk Management from the International Federation of Biosafety Associations or IFBA, the only internationally recognized program to certify one’s competency in biosafety and biosecurity management.

In addition to her full-time role as a scientist at the DOST, she is also engaged in a limited practice of profession as a part-time faculty of the St. Luke’s Medical Center College of Medicine, William H. Quasha Memorial, teaching Good Laboratory Practices, nucleic acid technologies, flow cytometry and Molecular Immunology classes. She’s been married for 13 years and a mom of an 11-year old girl.
