Maria Genaleen Q. Diaz is a Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Her field of specialization is Genetics and Molecular Biology. She had done genetic researches on the more classical fields of genetics such as cytogenetics to the more modern fields such as genomics/transcriptomics. Her researches include understanding the existing genetic diversity in some populations and DNA barcoding. She had also been involved in a number of researches on rice QTLs associated with tolerance to abiotic stresses. At present, she is conducting transcriptomic studies via RNA-Seq, particularly on important Philippine crops such as coconut, abaca, and saba banana. A lot of her researches have the ultimately goal of helping plant breeders in their continuous efforts to genetically improve crop plants.
